Hello Friends of OakBrook Life Enrichment Center!  January 27, 2010

        Cruise News:

Seventeen of us enjoyed our tropical cruise to the Bahamas last week aboard Royal Caribbean’s Monarch of the Seas. We all went our separate ways in groups of two or more, snorkeling, parasailing, dancing, sightseeing, shopping, and meeting new folks (there were 2400 guests on board) or just relaxing. Then we would come back together for dinner and hear about one-another’s day.  The weather was perfect. The ocean, except for a couple hours on Thursday afternoon was completely calm – and we made $1700.00 for OakBrook’s Building and Bond Fund.  How perfect is that?!

On a Sad Note:  We have the following memorial news offered to us by Beth Linguri, Minister-in-Training:

We are very sad to share with you the news of the transition of our colleague and member, Teri Havener at 22:22 on the 22nd of January, at home, surrounded by her close friends and family.  Teri had been ill since mid November and was diagnosed only a few days earlier with a very rare form of cancer.

In Memoriam:

Teri Jayne Havener was born on September 4, 1960 in Beverly, Massachusetts. She grew up in Chappaqua, New York, New Jersey and Maryland.  She is survived by her mother, Cathie Oliver, siblings Rand and Stacey Havener, Grandmother Laurel Oliver and aunt, Beth Linguri.   Teri always loved horses and showed an amazing talent to relate and communicate with them.  We called her the horse whisperer.  She attended Pennsylvania State University and she received a degree in Hospitality Management.  She moved to Ocala in 1990 and worked in the hospitality and restaurant business for several years.

She obtained a degree as a Fitness Trainer and became the Fitness Director at On Top of the World Communities. She was beloved and appreciated by the residents and taught courses in aerobics, nutrition, and health.  She was a wonderful influence encouraging the senior citizens to assume a positive attitude toward fitness and health.

She became an owner of a race horse in 2002, Discover Eva, who was a race winner. She joined the training staff at Winding Oaks Farm in Ocala and was so appreciated for her sensitivity to the horses in her care. In this photo, she is caring for Eva’s first foal, Star.

She attended OakBrook Center for many years with her grandmother, Laurel Oliver and participated actively in the Yoga Classes and Ions meetings.

In Visions of a Universal Humanity, futurist Barbara Marx Hubbard brings together some of the finest minds of our time, presenting us with positive, future scenarios for humanity based on the latest scientific, social and spiritual realities.

“Without vision, the people perish… with vision we flourish.”

Hidden beneath the breakdowns of modern society are breakthroughs that herald a radically new human condition. While most of these breakthroughs are small, yet vital incremental changes, others are clearly significant new capacities that can fundamentally change our lives forever.

When we view these new capacities with ‘evolutionary eyes’ as the culmination of humanity’s 14- billion-year journey from the Big Bang to where we are now, the design or pattern beneath the physical world that activates the continuous emergence of greater consciousness, freedom and order in the universe comes into sharper focus. In essence, we discover the hidden ‘Code of Evolution’.

In the pre-scientific era, this Code has been revealed by mystics for millennia. Western traditions have alluded to the last days and intimations of a new life after death as ‘a new heavens and a new earth; a new Jerusalem; Paradise’. Now, in VISIONS, we make visible and viable the mystery of the next stage of human evolution as we present the 21st century’s potential for the next stage of life based on the harmonious use of our new capacities in the spiritual, social and scientific realms.

VISIONS touches the ‘transcendent yearnings’ of life itself within us; life that when it hits a limit to its own growth either goes extinct or innovates and transforms itself as it repeatedly has done during our great 14-billion-year tradition. In VISIONS, futurist Barbara Marx Hubbard will bring together some of the greatest minds of our time to reveal the potential for the next stage of human evolution, the next turn on the spiral of ‘Our Story’. VISIONS will take us across the ‘evolutionary gap’ from here -- a warring, polluting, over-populating species on the brink of self destruction, to there, -- a co-creative, universal humanity at the dawn of the first Universal Age of Conscious Evolution, a future filled with infinite possibilities.
